London, August 19: A 28-year-old social media content creator, Shamsu Bibi, was reportedly shot dead by two assailants near Taxila, close to Islamabad, Pakistan. Bibi, known online as Ayesha Gilamana and boasting over a million followers, has become a tragic symbol of the rising violence against women and social media influencers in the country.
According to her brother, Niamatullah, Bibi was murdered on August 14 amid a reported financial dispute. He has urged Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to intervene and ensure justice for the victim’s family.
A complaint filed by Bibi’s father, Fazal Sahibzada, alleges that a man named Kashif lured his daughter out of their home in Taxila. After leaving, she was in a car with her sister and brother when the attack occurred.
Police reports indicate that as their vehicle approached a market, two individuals on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire on the car. Bibi was shot in the neck, leading to her death.
A video circulating on social media purportedly shows the assailants stopping near Bibi’s car and firing at close range. Following the shooting, the car lost control and crashed into a dump truck, seriously injuring Bibi’s sister.
Fazal Sahibzada mentioned that his daughter had been creating TikTok videos for the past three to four years, garnering between 30 to 35 million likes and amassing over a million followers.
Bibi’s murder comes at a time of increasing concern regarding violent attacks on young female content creators in Pakistan.
According to the Islamabad-based organization Sahil, there were 3,172 reported cases of gender-based violence in Pakistan during the first six months of 2026. This figure includes 18 cases involving transgender individuals.

Victims included 334 individuals aged 21 to 30, 306 aged 11 to 20, and 120 aged 31 to 40. However, the ages of approximately 71% of the victims were not recorded.
