Model Arrested for Assaulting Railway Staff Over Train Seat Dispute

Mumbai, August 17: A model was arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) after she allegedly assaulted railway staff and security personnel over a seat dispute on a train. However, she was later released on bail.

According to police reports, 31-year-old Antara Banerjee, a resident of Thane, was traveling to Surat for a web series shoot on the Bandra-Ganganagar Aravali Express on the night of August 12. It is alleged that following a dispute over her seat, she removed her clothing and attacked a ticket checker and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel with a razor blade. Upon the train’s arrival at Dahanu railway station, she was removed from the train and handed over to the railway police. The next morning, the Borivali railway police detained her and registered a case for endangering lives, assault, and self-harm.

The incident began when another passenger requested Banerjee to vacate her reserved seat. When she refused, the passenger called the RPF and ticket checker for assistance. Reports suggest that Banerjee reacted aggressively towards the intervening officials and used abusive language. Witnesses noted that she appeared distressed, as she had not secured a ticket for the AC coach and had entered it with a sleeper class ticket.

When officials suggested she contact relatives or legal counsel, she refused to cooperate and demanded her arrest. This entire episode lasted over an hour, alarming other passengers on board.

The Borivali GRP reported that she was arrested under various charges, including endangering passenger safety, causing serious injury to government employees, and assault. However, she was later released on bail.

The GRP indicated that the incident occurred between 9:30 PM and 10:50 PM on August 12. In her complaint, RPF ASI Yamini Kant Mishra stated that she and Constable Rajesh Kumar were informed by ticket collector Harikesh Tripathi and another passenger about Banerjee’s refusal to vacate her reserved seat. Following this, she reportedly removed her clothing, brandished a blade, and injured both the ticket checker and herself.

The complaint further detailed that during the altercation, Banerjee damaged ASI Mishra’s uniform and mobile phone, and broke her glasses. To regain control, RPF personnel closed the doors of the AC coach. Allegedly, Banerjee broke a window to escape. Upon reaching Dahanu, she was handed over to the GRP and later released after being notified.
