Guwahati, August 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that police seized drugs worth approximately ₹39.4 crore near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Guwahati, leading to the arrest of two individuals.
In a post on social media platform X, Chief Minister Sarma praised the Guwahati police for their operation, stating that this seizure would help protect the youth from the growing threat of substance abuse.
He shared details of the operation, writing, “Mirror on the wall, tell me how much drugs are there? ₹39.4 crore!”
According to the Chief Minister, police intercepted a truck near ISBT and recovered ten soap boxes filled with heroin and 140,000 yaba tablets. Yaba tablets, which typically contain methamphetamine, are a synthetic drug associated with severe health risks and addiction.
This seizure represents a significant blow to the drug trafficking network operating through Assam. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with this case.
Authorities are expected to investigate the source of the shipment, its intended destination, and the broader network involved in transporting the drugs. This operation is part of Assam police’s intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and distribution in the state.
