
Beijing, August 19: China is celebrating its 9th Doctor’s Day. According to the National Health Commission, the number of registered physicians in the country reached 5.29 million by the end of 2025, surpassing the target set in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).
The ratio of postgraduate and undergraduate degree holders, as well as senior-level physicians, has also increased compared to 2012.
In addition, over 10.6 billion patient treatments were conducted in China’s medical institutions in 2025. The country’s key health indicators have reached leading levels among upper-middle-income nations and countries with populations exceeding 100 million. This marks the highest level achieved to date.
The National Health Commission emphasized that medical quality and safety are top priorities, as they are directly linked to public welfare and social stability. In recent years, there has been a continuous improvement in medical quality and safety in China. Many key indicators have shown year-on-year progress.
The Commission stated its commitment to promoting the high-quality development of medical professionals, improving the structure of the health workforce, and encouraging physicians to serve the public with high ethics and technical skills.
Additionally, the Commission has called for increased respect, understanding, and recognition from society towards medical professionals, ensuring their contributions receive the appropriate respect and significance.
