Chandigarh, May 21: The Punjab Police have achieved another significant success in their ongoing battle against drug and illegal arms trafficking. The Counter Intelligence team in Amritsar has dismantled an international trafficking module. Two traffickers were arrested during this operation, with authorities seizing 5.5 kilograms of heroin, four pistols, and ten rounds of ammunition.
Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav shared this success on the social media platform ‘X’, stating, “In a major breakthrough, the Counter Intelligence team in Amritsar has uncovered a module involved in the trafficking of drugs and illegal weapons/ammunition. Two suspects have been arrested, and we have seized 5.5 kilograms of heroin, along with four pistols and ten rounds.”
DGP Yadav further revealed that preliminary investigations indicated the arrested individuals were in contact with cross-border traffickers. They had received a shipment of weapons and ammunition intended for distribution within Punjab. A case has been registered at the SSOCC police station in Amritsar, and the police are intensifying their investigation to uncover further links in this network and identify additional accomplices.
The Punjab Police are firmly committed to a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against drugs, illegal arms, and organized crime. DGP Gaurav Yadav has made it clear that no form of trafficking or crime will be tolerated in the state.
Heroin, cannabis, opium, and illegal arms trafficking have become significant issues in Punjab over recent years, particularly in districts bordering Pakistan where such modules are active. This police action is considered crucial not only for tackling drug trafficking but also for preventing the supply of weapons to terrorists and criminals.
