Muzaffarpur, March 8: The Muzaffarpur district police in Bihar have successfully dismantled a significant cyber fraud gang under their ongoing operation, “Cyber Prahar.” Two individuals involved in the cyber scam were arrested on Sunday.
The police assert that these criminals were defrauding innocent victims across the country through investment schemes and online gaming frauds.
A police official revealed that they received a tip-off about some criminals operating in the Salempur and Gorighama Tola areas of the Rampurhari police station, engaging in digital fraud. Based on this information, a special team was formed under the leadership of Cyber DSP Himanshu Kumar.
This team acted swiftly, raiding identified locations and apprehending two young men, Arjun Kumar and Randhir Kumar, red-handed. During interrogation, both confessed to being involved in this illegal business for a considerable time.
The Cyber DSP explained that the gang primarily lured victims with promises of high returns on investments and exploited fake gaming apps to siphon money from people’s bank accounts. They were targeting individuals from various states while operating from Bihar. Reports indicate that over a dozen states have fallen victim to this gang’s schemes.
During the raid, police recovered a significant cache of technical equipment and banking documents from the criminals. The haul included nine smartphones (with various active SIM cards), debit cards from 14 different banks, a passbook, 11 checkbooks (three of which were pre-signed), a laptop, PAN cards, Aadhaar cards, and five counterfeit seals. It is suspected that these items were used for document preparation.
