Mumbai, March 17: The Mumbai unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken significant action against corruption by arresting an Assistant Police Inspector (API) red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh. The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Tushar Kale.
According to reports, the officer was assigned to investigate a property dispute case under the direction of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Bandra. He was responsible for conducting the investigation and submitting a report to the court. During the investigation, Tushar Kale demanded a bribe of ₹3 lakh from the complainant in exchange for a favorable report. This case was related to a property dispute involving the complainant’s brother, who sought a resolution in his favor.
Police stated that after recording the complainant’s brother’s statement, Kale subtly hinted at the need for a bribe, suggesting that they should also consider his side. When the complainant met him directly, Kale explicitly demanded ₹3 lakh to influence his investigation report. Subsequently, the complainant contacted the ACB.
Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB set a trap. During negotiations, the accused officer agreed to reduce the bribe amount to ₹1.5 lakh. As per the plan, when the complainant handed over the ₹1.5 lakh, the ACB team arrested Kale on the spot.
Following the arrest, a case has been registered against the accused under the relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. ACB officials have stated that further investigations are ongoing, exploring other potential aspects of the case.
