Criminal Arrested in New Delhi While Seeking New Targets; Stolen Phones and Motorcycle Recovered

New Delhi, March 19: The police in southwestern Delhi achieved a significant breakthrough. They apprehended a suspect who was roaming the area with intentions to commit crimes. Stolen mobile phones and a motorcycle were recovered from the accused.

On Thursday, Delhi police issued a press release stating that a case was registered based on a complaint from Anmol, a resident of Asola village in Fatehpur Beri. He reported that while he was heading towards Chhatarpur with a delivery parcel from Vasant Square Mall in Vasant Kunj, his mobile phone was snatched near the red light at Fortis Hospital. Anmol had placed his phone on the stand of his scooter when a motorcyclist collided with him, forcibly snatched the phone, and fled towards the Fortis red light. An investigation was initiated immediately.

To resolve snatching cases, an ‘Anti-Snatching Cell’ was formed, comprising a special team from the southwestern district. The team analyzed CCTV footage and gathered both technical and manual information. They increased patrolling during late hours. Acting on a tip-off, the police set up a trap in the Vasant Kunj South police station area. During this operation, one suspect riding a motorcycle was apprehended.

The suspect was identified as Shailendra, a 20-year-old resident of Wazirpur in Shalimar Bagh. During the search, three mobile phones were recovered from him. Upon investigation, it was revealed that these phones were linked to various snatching and theft cases. During continuous questioning, the suspect confessed that he had snatched these mobile phones in the Vasant Kunj South area. He further admitted that he was roaming around with the intention of selling the stolen phones and committing more crimes.
