New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi government and Minister Pravesh Verma in response to a petition seeking police protection for an alleged assault victim. The court is also requesting a status report from the Delhi Police regarding the incident.
The case stems from an allegation made on September 27 by Sahib Singh, who works with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Jarnail Singh. Singh claims that during an inspection, Minister Verma slapped him after seizing his mobile phone. Following the incident, Singh called for police action.
On the same day, Verma released a three-minute video on social media to defend himself. He stated that inappropriate language had been used against his family, which provoked his reaction. Verma emphasized, “I want to tell the Aam Aadmi Party that what you could not accomplish, our government is doing. Therefore, it is natural to feel pain.”
Sahib Singh explained that he coordinates with Jarnail Singh and manages his social media accounts. He noted that when he learned about Verma’s inspection in the area, he highlighted the poor road conditions to the gathered crowd, live-streaming the encounter on Jarnail Singh’s page.
Singh alleged that Verma snatched his phone to stop the live stream and then slapped him. He also claimed that Verma’s security personnel pushed him and engaged in physical confrontation.
The court’s notice and the subsequent developments will be closely monitored as the case unfolds.
