
Thimphu, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gore met with Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Thimphu on October 8, 2026. The two leaders engaged in discussions focused on enhancing investment, innovation, and collaboration between the two nations.
Gore highlighted Bhutan’s ambitious vision for the future, which includes the development of the Gelefu Mindfulness City. This project is seen as a way to strengthen ties and create new opportunities for cooperation with the United States. He shared his thoughts on social media platform X, stating, “Meeting with Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was an honor. We discussed ways to enhance investment, innovation, and collaboration. Bhutan’s ambitious vision for the future, including Gelefu Mindfulness City, is opening new pathways for deeper engagement with the U.S.”
During his official visit, Gore also met with Prime Minister Shering Tobgay, where they addressed issues related to regional stability and prosperity. Gore expressed his pleasure at returning to Bhutan, calling it one of the most beautiful places in the world. He thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and noted the importance of their discussions on advancing stability and prosperity in the region.
This marks a continuation of dialogue between Gore and Tobgay, who previously met in March to explore further collaboration in areas of mutual interest. Tobgay welcomed Gore’s visit, emphasizing the potential for strengthening U.S.-Bhutan cooperation.
Although Bhutan and the United States have yet to establish formal diplomatic relations, they maintain friendly and informal ties. These connections are supported through the U.S. Embassy in India and Bhutan’s mission to the United Nations in New York.
