Kanpur, June 23: In response to the tragic fire incident at a coaching center in Aliganj, Lucknow, the Kanpur Development Authority (KDA) has entered full action mode. A large-scale inspection campaign was launched in the Kakadeo area, a prominent educational hub in the city, where hundreds of students attend various coaching institutes. Investigations were conducted due to concerns over violations of safety standards and building regulations, leading to significant actions against several institutions.
During the raids, many coaching centers were evacuated. One student reported that his batch consisted of around 40 to 50 students. He expressed that the incident in Lucknow caused significant damage, emphasizing the urgent need for safety inspections across all coaching centers.
Another student shared that they were abruptly told to leave class due to the sealing of their coaching center. She mentioned that approximately 60 students were enrolled in her batch and supported the government’s actions, stating that if a coaching center is being sealed, it likely indicates a failure to meet safety standards.
Student Pratuman Yadav also backed the authorities’ actions, noting that the sealing of the coaching center was due to inadequate safety measures. He expressed hope that once the institutions fulfill the necessary safety requirements and documentation, they could reopen.
KDA Secretary Abhay Pandey provided insights into the ongoing campaign, stating that the authority is taking the Lucknow incident very seriously and has initiated special inspection drives across its jurisdiction. He highlighted that areas where coaching centers operate or where basement activities are occurring are under particular scrutiny.
Pandey reported that since Monday, approximately 30 buildings have faced action, with several coaching centers sealed and others issued notices. Actions against identified buildings will continue, and violations of safety regulations will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
