Guwahati, April 7: Mahima Singh, the media coordinator for the Congress party, has shared her views on the ongoing accusations in the Assam Assembly, including the Women’s Reservation Bill. She dismissed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s claim of jailing Pawan Khera as “daydreaming.”
In an interview, Singh questioned the validity of the Women’s Reservation Bill, emphasizing that women constitute half of the country’s population. She argued that providing reservation is essential to eliminate centuries-old discrimination and ensure equal rights for women.
Singh pointed out that the current societal structure is male-dominated. She believes that reservation can help secure equal rights for women, but it must be implemented with the right policies and intentions.
Regarding the Assam CM’s harsh legal stance against Khera, Singh remarked that it seems Sarma has lost his composure and is struggling to mislead the public, as the truth is becoming increasingly clear.
She noted that Khera touches on sensitive issues that trouble the CM.
When asked if the BJP would benefit from women’s reservation in elections, Singh responded that women are very discerning. She warned against underestimating their intelligence, stating that it is a grave misconception to think they can be easily misled for political gain. Women can see through such tactics.
Singh highlighted that efforts have been made to directly benefit 4 million women in Assam to secure their votes. However, she asserted that women are aware that these benefits are merely attempts to manipulate them into joining the BJP. Assam’s women are astute and fully understand the political game at play.
