Controversy Erupts After Arrested Suspect Dies in Bihars Eastern Champaran

Patna, April 10: Following a recent tragedy involving toxic alcohol in Bihar’s Eastern Champaran, police have intensified their crackdown on alcohol traffickers and illegal liquor networks.

Amid this crackdown, a new controversy has emerged after the death of an arrested suspect during treatment. Achhelal Paswan, who was wanted in an illegal liquor case, was apprehended in the Ghivadhar area of the Harsiddhi police station. He died on Thursday while receiving treatment at the Sadar Hospital.

According to officials, Paswan was admitted to the hospital after his health deteriorated in jail. However, he passed away during treatment.

As news of his death spread, family members rushed to the hospital and created a scene. They leveled serious allegations against the police administration, claiming that the case was resolved for a bribe and that Paswan did not receive timely medical care, leading to his death.

Paswan’s brother-in-law, Nitesh Lal Paswan, specifically accused Sudama Rai, a constable stationed at Harsiddhi police station, of taking a bribe of 50,000 rupees while still arresting him.

Sub-Divisional Officer Nishant Sehra stated that the campaign against illegal alcohol is ongoing. He mentioned that the body would be handed over to the family after the post-mortem, and an investigation is underway.

The Sub-Divisional Police Officer reported that the suspect was arrested on April 3 and sent to judicial custody. He was hospitalized after falling ill, where he died on Thursday.

This incident has heightened tensions in the area, especially following the recent deaths caused by toxic alcohol in Eastern Champaran. It is noteworthy that on April 2, eleven people died after consuming toxic liquor. This marks the first time a suspect has died during treatment.

The administration is closely monitoring the situation, and the campaign against illegal alcohol continues.

This entire episode has once again raised serious questions regarding police actions, safety in custody, and the treatment of suspects.
