Bengaluru, April 10: Central Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and Railways Minister V. Somanna conducted a joint inspection of the ongoing development works on the Bengaluru-Mysuru rail line on Thursday. During this visit, they announced the modernization and upgradation of the Mandya railway station.
The inspection began at KSR Bengaluru City Railway Station, where both ministers traveled by a special train, reviewing the ongoing works en route to Mysuru. Senior officials from South Western Railway and several public representatives were also present during the inspection.
The ministers assessed the progress of underpasses, overbridges, and other infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing safety and connectivity. During the journey, Kumaraswamy discussed pending projects in the Mandya, Ramanagara, and Mysuru Lok Sabha constituencies with Minister Somanna and officials. He emphasized the need to expedite these projects and address infrastructure deficiencies.
In a media interaction, Kumaraswamy described the five-hour journey from Bengaluru to Mysuru as a special experience. He noted that they departed from Bengaluru at 10 AM and arrived in Mysuru by 3 PM.
He stated that rail transport is not only crucial for passenger convenience but also serves as the backbone of the country’s commerce. Discussions were held on further improving the already strong rail connectivity between Bengaluru and Mysuru.
The ministers also deliberated on the development of railway stations in Ramanagara, Mandya, and Mysuru districts, increasing train services, halting major trains, and enhancing employment opportunities. Kumaraswamy revealed that the Railway Board has approved the halt of the ‘Wadiyar Express’ in Ramanagara, which will soon benefit local residents.
Regarding the Maddur railway station in Mandya district, he mentioned that the station, over 100 years old and located far from the city, requires modernization with new facilities. Somanna assured prompt action on this matter.
The ministers also discussed the upgrades of Maddur, Shrirangapatna, and Pandavapura stations. They considered the need for underpasses and overbridges while meeting with villagers in areas like Nidaghatta and Hanakere.
Villagers raised concerns about the frequent closures of railway crossings, to which the ministers promised swift solutions. Kumaraswamy highlighted that Mandya, situated between Bengaluru and Mysuru, is a significant hub for agriculture, trade, and tourism. Therefore, the railway station here will be equipped with modern amenities.
He noted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, railway stations across the country are being developed with airport-like facilities, and Mandya station will follow this model.
Railway officials assured that all demands and complaints would be reviewed, and necessary actions would be taken within one to two weeks.
