Maharashtra Political Turmoil: Sanjay Deshmukh Joins Shinde Faction, Remains Tight-Lipped on Uddhav Thackeray

Mumbai, June 23: Political activity in Maharashtra is intensifying. Recently, six MPs from Shiv Sena (UBT) have joined the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Among them is Sanjay Deshmukh, the MP from Yavatmal-Washim, who has now shared his thoughts on the matter.

In a conversation with reporters, Deshmukh stated, “The public elected us. Concerns about funding for development projects arose, prompting all MPs to come together for a collective decision. I am not the only one leaving the party; six MPs have decided to part ways.”

He further commented on the discussions surrounding the MPs’ development funds, asserting that there is no truth to the claims made by Anjali Damania. “How does work get done? Every task needs to be estimated and submitted on the portal, which sometimes goes down. What Anjali Damania said is not accurate; many development projects are ongoing,” he explained.

Deshmukh added, “I will not comment on Uddhav. He will visit his constituency, meet the people, and explain his role, while we will clarify ours. We will inform the public why we left. This decision was made within the constitutional framework. If it were not constitutional, we would not have taken this initiative as six MPs within the bounds of the law.”

He highlighted the significance of the two districts involved, noting that Yavatmal is known for farmer suicides, while Washim is an aspirational district. “The Wardha-Yavatmal-Nanded railway project will be completed, and work will continue for the Shakuntala broad gauge railway. Since we have supported this, it is our duty to ensure its completion for development; we are committed to this cause.”

On Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction executed ‘Operation Tiger,’ leading to a split in Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT). Six Lok Sabha MPs from the UBT faction have officially joined the Shinde group.

The six rebel MPs include Omprakash Bhupal Singh alias Omraja Nimbalkar (Dharsiv/Osmanabad), Nagesh Bapurav Patil Ashtikar (Hingoli), Sanjay Haribhau Jadhav (Parbhani), Sanjay Uttamrao Deshmukh (Yavatmal-Washim), Bhausaheb Rajaram Wakchaure (Shirdi), and Sanjay Dina Patil (Mumbai North East).
