Maharashtra Launches Special Voter Registration Drive Ahead of Deadline

Mumbai, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called on citizens to take advantage of special voter registration camps scheduled for October 10 and 11. He emphasized the importance of completing the registration process by the October 12 deadline to safeguard democratic rights.

This initiative is part of an ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, which Fadnavis recently described as a necessary and long-term measure to uphold the integrity of India’s democratic framework.

The special camps are being organized at designated polling stations across the state to assist citizens who may have difficulty registering. Eligible voters are encouraged to fill out Form-6 for immediate registration. Those who receive formal notices during the ongoing SIR verification process can use these camps to submit alternative valid documents and resolve any discrepancies. It is mandatory to finalize and submit all claims, objections, and documentation by the October 12 deadline.

Defending the current voter list revision, the Chief Minister noted that verification is essential to maintain accurate and reliable voter rolls amid rapid urbanization, continuous migration, and demographic changes.

The state administration has streamlined weekend camps to ensure that no genuine, eligible voter is deprived of their right to vote, highlighting the current framework as a natural extension of India’s decades-old electoral tradition.

Citizens are advised to verify their names on the voter list and complete any pending formalities at their local polling stations before the October 12 deadline.

Earlier, the office of Maharashtra’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), S. Choklingam, initiated targeted registration and door-to-door verification campaigns across the state.

Following the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), election officials are committed to ensuring that no eligible citizen is excluded from the voter list and that no ineligible entries remain.

The CEO’s office has stated that booth-level officers (BLOs) will be deployed at campus sites to assist eligible students with application forms and address queries related to the SIR process.

BLOs are conducting door-to-door surveys to identify eligible citizens missing from the draft voter list and are collecting Form-6 after verification.

Special voter registration camps will be held on October 10 and 11 at all designated polling stations for residents who are currently unavailable.

Citizens listed as absent or in the migrant voter category (compiled during the door-to-door census) can apply for re-registration or corrections.
