Bhopal, May 12: Madhya Pradesh is making strides in promoting green energy. The state has decided to install solar rooftop systems on the offices of various departments. A power purchase agreement was signed between government entities and RESCO development units in the district panchayat office’s conference hall in the capital.
Renewable Energy Minister Rakesh Shukla emphasized the need for action in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing call for fuel and energy conservation. He urged a collective effort from the government and administration to shift towards green energy, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
Minister Shukla set a target stating that 50 percent of energy consumption should come from renewable sources, and Madhya Pradesh is progressing rapidly in this direction. He highlighted the importance of raising awareness among the public, suggesting that solar panels should be visible on every household’s roof in the near future. He instructed that timely payments and proper maintenance should be ensured for projects undertaken under the RESCO model.
Additional Chief Secretary Manu Srivastava noted that the RESCO scheme is a powerful means of achieving zero investment, immediate savings, and moving towards net zero. He described it as a significant savings plan for the government and stressed the need for timely payments from all concerned departments, emphasizing the importance of coordinated efforts.
He also mentioned that similar programs will be organized across all districts in the state. Managing Director Amanbir Singh Bains provided detailed information about the scheme, stating that electricity will be generated at a rate of ₹3.78 per unit under the RESCO model. He instructed all relevant officials to manage operations efficiently and proactively.
MD Bains also mentioned that there is a provision for a 1% discount on payments made between the 3rd and 10th of each month, while a penalty of 1.5% will be applied for late payments. With the successful and efficient implementation of this scheme, Madhya Pradesh is set to become one of the leading states in solar energy in the country.
By adopting this model, government offices will not only achieve economic savings but also contribute significantly to environmental protection. The meeting was attended by Collector Priyank Mishra, CEO of District Panchayat Ila Tiwari, and other district officials.
