Bhopal, April 24: The caste certificate controversy surrounding Madhya Pradesh’s Urban Administration Minister, Pratima Bagri, is currently under scrutiny in the High Court of Jabalpur. The Congress party claims that the court has reprimanded the government and instructed it to conduct an investigation and submit a report within two months.
According to Congress, the double bench of Justices Vivek Agrawal and Avinendra Kumar Singh criticized the state government during the hearing of a public interest petition filed by Pradeep Ahirwar, the state president of the party’s Scheduled Caste department.
The court questioned why the investigation into this matter has been pending for nearly a year and why it has been suppressed. It directed the state government to ensure that a high-level inquiry committee completes its investigation and presents its findings within 60 days, setting a deadline of June 20.
Approximately a year ago, Pradeep Ahirwar lodged a complaint with the high-level inquiry committee regarding Minister Pratima Bagri’s caste certificate. The complaint alleged that despite being associated with the general category Rajput community, a fraudulent Scheduled Caste certificate was obtained. Ahirwar stated that Minister Bagri has only two months left in her ministerial position. He believes that once the inquiry committee’s report is released, her caste certificate will be declared fraudulent, forcing her to resign.
He accused Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s government of protecting officials and ministers. It appears evident that Minister Pratima Bagri’s caste certificate is questionable, which has led the inquiry committee to delay the investigation under pressure. Even after a year since the complaint was filed, the investigation remains incomplete, prompting Ahirwar to approach the High Court.
He alleges that the state government has consistently shielded its ministers while influencing the investigation process. Ahirwar emphasized that this issue pertains to social justice and constitutional values. If an individual wrongfully benefits from Scheduled Caste privileges, it directly infringes upon the rights of genuinely eligible individuals. He has demanded that a fair, transparent, and timely investigation be conducted in compliance with the High Court’s directives and that strict action be taken against those found guilty.
