
Bhopal, April 29: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav presided over a cabinet meeting on Tuesday at the ministry. The cabinet approved significant development projects exceeding ₹26,800 crore aimed at the comprehensive development and welfare of the state.
In a major step towards strengthening the state’s infrastructure, ₹26,311 crore has been allocated for various construction and renovation projects by the Public Works Department over the next five years (2026-2031). Prioritizing social justice and education, the cabinet decided to increase the scholarship amount for backward class students from ₹1,550 to ₹10,000 per month.
Additionally, crucial financial provisions have been made for the Lakhandar micro-irrigation project and the electrification of 38,901 Anganwadi centers across the state. Revised administrative approvals have also been granted for medical colleges in Bhopal and Rewa, which will enhance health services and infrastructure to meet future needs. The cabinet meeting commenced with the singing of “Vande Mataram.”
The cabinet approved an administrative sanction of ₹155.82 crore for the Lakhandar high-pressure micro-irrigation project in Shajapur district. This project will provide irrigation facilities to 24 villages, covering 9,200 hectares in Shajapur and Ujjain districts. Water will be drawn from an existing reservoir near Maksi on the Lakhandar River.
Furthermore, the cabinet sanctioned approximately ₹26,311 crore for various plans related to road renovations, office establishments, maintenance, and compensation for land acquisition for the sixteenth finance commission period from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031.
According to the approval, ₹6,180.57 crore has been allocated for headquarters office establishment, divisional office establishment, maintenance, and repairs. Additionally, ₹6,925 crore has been approved for central road infrastructure projects, ₹1,680 crore for maintenance of high-grade government housing and non-residential buildings, and ₹6,500 crore for land acquisition compensation.
The cabinet also approved a modification to the 2005 hostel scheme for backward class students studying in higher educational institutions in Delhi. Under this scheme, 100 new students will benefit annually, with 50 seats allocated for undergraduate and 50 for postgraduate students. Current beneficiaries will continue to receive support until they complete their courses.
The scholarship amount has been increased to ₹10,000 per month. To qualify, students must be eligible for the backward class post-matric scholarship, and their parents’ annual income must fall within the limits set by the government.
To expand quality medical education and provide tertiary health facilities in remote areas, the cabinet approved ₹14.08 crore for the construction of an OPD, linear accelerator bunker, bone marrow transplant unit, and cath lab at Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, along with a revised administrative approval of ₹79.16 crore.
For the expansion of the super specialty hospital under Shyam Shah Medical College, Rewa, the cabinet revised the administrative approval from ₹164.49 crore to ₹174.80 crore.
Additionally, the cabinet approved ₹80.41 crore for the electrification of 38,901 Anganwadi centers under the Women and Child Development Department for the sixteenth finance commission period (2026-27 to 2030-31).
This initiative aims to electrify Anganwadi buildings, enhancing the operational efficiency of departmental schemes and providing a conducive environment for early childhood education and other services. The goal is to electrify a total of 38,901 Anganwadi buildings, including those under the Earth Abba scheme and those constructed from the District Mineral Fund.
