LPG Supply Remains Steady Amid Middle East Tensions, Government Reports

New Delhi, May 1: On April 30, over 4.98 million domestic LPG cylinders were delivered across the country, with 4.16 million new bookings recorded. Despite tensions in the Middle East affecting supply chains, the supply of cooking gas remains stable, with no reports of shortages, according to a statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

The ministry noted that online LPG bookings have surged to 98%. Additionally, deliveries are being authenticated through codes sent to registered mobile numbers, ensuring that gas is not misdelivered.

While global oil prices have risen, the prices of petrol and diesel in the country remain unchanged, with ample availability at all petrol pumps.

However, oil companies are gradually adjusting the prices of certain products, such as jet fuel and commercial LPG, in line with international market trends, primarily for industrial and commercial use.

In the meantime, strict actions are being taken nationwide to prevent hoarding and black marketing of LPG. Over 2,300 raids were conducted on Thursday alone.

Government oil companies have increased monitoring, imposing fines on 342 LPG distributors, with 73 distributors suspended to date. The statement further revealed that notices were issued to 46 LPG distributors on Thursday, with fines levied on six and one suspension.

The supply of cooking gas is entirely normal, with no reports of shortages.

Through the MyPNGD platform, over 43,200 piped natural gas (PNG) consumers have surrendered their LPG connections, reducing the demand for LPG.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas stated that necessary measures are being taken to ensure the continuous availability of petroleum products and LPG, especially considering the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

The government has urged citizens not to panic-buy petrol, diesel, or LPG and to avoid rumors. They are advised to rely solely on official sources for accurate information. LPG consumers are encouraged to book digitally and avoid visiting distributors in person.

The statement concluded that all refineries in the country are operating at full capacity, with sufficient crude oil stock available. There is also an adequate reserve of petrol and diesel, and LPG production has been increased to meet domestic consumption needs.
