Mumbai, August 8: Senior Maharashtra Congress leader Bhai Jagatap has responded to recent statements regarding redistricting, student movements, and comments made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat about Gen Z. He emphasized that discussions on redistricting should not be limited to Rahul Gandhi but should also involve leaders from various states across the country.
While addressing the media about Union Minister Kiren Rijiju’s remarks on discussing the redistricting issue with Rahul Gandhi, Jagatap stated that as the Leader of the Opposition, Gandhi should certainly be consulted. However, he stressed that this matter is relevant to multiple states, and their leaders should also be included in the conversation.
He noted that there are many speculations surrounding the redistricting process, which he believes is a national issue that warrants thorough discussion. Alongside engaging with Rahul Gandhi, it is crucial to involve leaders from different states in these talks.
Commenting on Mohan Bhagwat’s assertion that “Gen Z is patriotic, and it is incorrect to label them as anti-national,” Jagatap remarked that it is better late than never. He suggested that Bhagwat should convey this message to Prime Minister Modi, government ministers, and others in the RSS who have previously labeled students as terrorists or anti-national. He pointed out that the youth of India have compelled the Modi government to reconsider its stance, suggesting that if this had been addressed earlier, the current situation might have been avoided.
Regarding the issue of reservations, Jagatap highlighted that many individuals do not benefit from these provisions. He attributed social discrimination to educated Brahmins and argued that such biases will persist until people prioritize education. He emphasized that education is a right and that a significant portion of society has been deprived of it for too long, necessitating the need for reservations.
On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent message about handlooms, Jagatap advised that he should first wear handloom products himself. He noted that Congress members have consistently done so. He urged the Prime Minister to lead by example before appealing to the citizens of the country. He criticized the lack of response to disasters occurring in several states while the Prime Minister focuses on other issues.
