New Delhi, September 10 (Daily Kiran) : Three exceptional cricketers have been nominated for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for August 2026. Thailand’s Suliporn Laomi and Nannapat Koncharoenkai, alongside Lucy Barnett from the Isle of Man, have made the shortlist, marking a significant achievement for Barnett as she becomes the first cricketer from the Isle of Man to receive such recognition.
Laomi and Koncharoenkai earned their nominations due to outstanding performances in the white-ball format. Their contributions were pivotal during the One Day International (ODI) and T20 series against Papua New Guinea, as well as in the ongoing Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai.
Laomi, a leg-spinner, played a crucial role in Thailand’s 3-0 ODI series victory against Papua New Guinea, taking four wickets at an impressive economy rate of 3.38. Her standout performance included a match-winning spell of 3 for 27 in the final match. Additionally, she took six wickets in four T20 matches during August, maintaining her momentum with a remarkable 3-wicket haul against India in the Asia Cup, conceding just 26 runs.
On the other hand, wicketkeeper-batsman Koncharoenkai provided consistent stability at the top of the order for Thailand. She emerged as the leading run-scorer in the T20 series against Papua New Guinea, amassing 144 runs at an average of 36. Her strong form continued into the ODI series, where she scored 121 runs at an average of 40.33, including a top score of 54 in the first match. In the Asia Cup, she was also the sole Thai player to reach double figures against India, scoring 41 runs.
Meanwhile, Lucy Barnett, the captain and opener from the Isle of Man, shone in the Women’s Continental Cup held in Romania, leading her team to the finals. She was the tournament’s highest run-scorer, accumulating 257 runs at an impressive average of 128.5 across four T20 matches. Her remarkable innings included an unbeaten 123 runs off 64 balls against Norway, along with half-centuries against Romania (71 not out) and Turkey (59) in the final. Barnett also contributed with the ball, taking four wickets during the tournament.
