Sabalenka Advances to US Open Final, One Win Away from Third Consecutive Title

New York, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Aryna Sabalenka is just one victory away from clinching her third consecutive US Open title. The top-seeded player defeated American Jessica Pegula, the third seed, in straight sets during the semifinals on September 11, 2026.

The match, held at Arthur Ashe Stadium, ended with scores of 7-5, 6-2, as Sabalenka showcased her powerful serve and impressive groundstrokes, leaving Pegula unable to mount a serious challenge. With this defeat, Pegula’s hopes for her first Grand Slam title were dashed.

In the first set, both players held serve until the twelfth game, where Sabalenka led 6-5. After a series of strong groundstrokes, Pegula found herself down 0-40, leading to Sabalenka taking the first set. She maintained her momentum into the second set, attacking Pegula’s questionable second serve and securing a crucial break to lead 3-1 with a precise forehand.

The remainder of the set continued with both players serving until Pegula hit a long return on match point. Sabalenka sealed her victory with another powerful forehand, finishing with seven aces and 29 winners, marking one of her best performances in the tournament.

Following her win, Sabalenka expressed her joy, stating, “I am very happy that I could play such tennis. I was so eager to win. I wanted it badly.”

If she triumphs in the final, Sabalenka will join tennis legends Chris Evert and Serena Williams as the only women to win the US Open three times in a row. This will be her fourth consecutive final at the US Open.

In the final, Sabalenka will face either Elena Rybakina or Coco Gauff.
