New Delhi: In a significant hearing on Thursday, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi directed key accused in the Land for Job case — Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, and Tej Pratap Yadav — to appear personally before the court. This step is essential for the formal framing of charges against them.
During the hearing, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi requested exemption from appearing in court citing their advanced age. Tejashwi Yadav also sought permission to be exempted from personal appearance due to poor health. The court took their requests under consideration.
Granting some relief, the court allowed the accused to appear personally on any day between 1st and 25th February. It was made clear that the court must be informed one day prior to their appearance so that formal charges can be framed accordingly.
Patliputra MP and Lalu’s elder daughter, Misa Bharti, along with her sister Hema Yadav, appeared in court during the hearing. Both denied the allegations against them and asserted their intention to contest the case legally.
The court also announced that the trial for the CBI case related to the Land for Job matter will commence from 9th March. Regular hearings, including examination of witnesses and other legal procedures, will proceed from that date.
Earlier, the Rouse Avenue Court had framed charges against 46 accused in the CBI’s chargesheet, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Hema Yadav, and Misa Bharti. Additionally, 52 other accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
