Labor Unrest in Noida: Activist Shalini Investigates Ground Realities in Haroula Village

Noida, April 15: Amid rising labor unrest and protests in Noida, social activist Shalini Singh visited Haroula village to assess the situation on the ground. During her visit, she met with workers, particularly women, at their homes to listen to their concerns seriously.

The living conditions for workers in Haroula village were found to be deplorable. In several instances, ten families were crammed into a single house, sharing just one bathroom. Expressing deep concern, Shalini Singh emphasized that the country still needs to free itself from economic inequality and exploitation.

Women workers reported that they are often not informed about their salaries, provident fund (PF), and Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) deductions. The contracting system has further destabilized their situation.

They alleged that during a recent two-day strike, their wages were deducted even though they stayed home for safety reasons, which they deemed completely unjust. Workers also mentioned that they do not receive proper overtime pay and are often denied leave when needed. Unannounced absences lead to double wage deductions, exacerbating their financial exploitation.

In this era of rising inflation, where gas cylinder prices and school fees for children continue to increase, their salaries have only seen a meager rise of 1,000 to 1,500 rupees over the past 9-10 years, making it extremely difficult to support their families.

Additionally, workers highlighted serious issues such as poor food quality in the company canteen, the necessity of walking long distances to reach their workplace, and the lack of leave even when ill.

Shalini Singh condemned these conditions as blatant violations of workers’ rights and called for immediate intervention from the administration and relevant companies. She urged that the issues faced by workers must be resolved promptly and appealed to all workers to raise their voices peacefully.

The event was also attended by Avinash Singh, president of the Youth Revolution Army, Arjun Prajapati, Akash Sharma, and several other villagers.
