Strict Measures on Gas Supply in Uttar Pradesh: Free Cylinders for the Needy

Mumbai, April 15: The Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, S.P. Goyal, has issued directives to ensure a seamless supply of domestic gas cylinders across the state. He emphasized the need to prevent any shortages and to maintain strict vigilance against black marketing and hoarding. During a weekly review meeting held via video conferencing with divisional commissioners and district magistrates, he provided several key guidelines to enhance administrative efficiency.

Goyal instructed officials to identify migrant workers residing in industrial areas and those in the unorganized sector. Special camps will be set up to provide them with free 5 kg Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders, ensuring they face no difficulties in cooking.

He stressed the importance of expediting the process of issuing PNG gas connections. Residents in areas where pipelines have been installed should be encouraged to apply for connections, and pending NOCs and approvals must be resolved promptly.

In the meeting, it was reported that out of a target of 204,000 PNG connections, 46,954 have been issued so far, with over 1,700 connections being provided daily. For farmers affected by natural disasters, Goyal directed that special camps be organized to distribute compensation in the presence of local representatives, ensuring no farmer is left without relief. He also called for a faster payment process under the crop insurance scheme.

Taking a firm stance against illegal alcohol, the Chief Secretary stated that there should be no sale of illicit liquor in any district. Continuous raids should be conducted in sensitive areas to crack down on production, storage, and sales, along with public awareness campaigns to inform people about the harmful effects.

While reviewing agricultural schemes, he instructed to expedite the registration of remaining farmers in the farmer registry, aiming to complete this by April 30. A special campaign at the village panchayat level will ensure the registration of all landholding farmers.

The meeting noted that 82.35% of beneficiaries under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme have completed their registration, with over 3.2 million non-PM farmers also included in the registry. The total number of registered farmers has exceeded 20.9 million.

Goyal announced that starting May 15, 2026, a farmer ID will be mandatory to avail benefits from fertilizers, seeds, and other agricultural schemes. He urged for widespread awareness campaigns to inform farmers and ensure active participation from village heads.
