Kunal Ghosh Questions TMCs Organizational Decisions Amid Rising Discontent

Kolkata, June 6: Kunal Ghosh, a legislator and spokesperson for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), raised concerns about the party’s recent organizational decisions through a social media post on Saturday. He indicated that he disagrees with certain decision-making processes of the party leadership.

During a national executive meeting held on Friday, several decisions regarding the distribution of organizational responsibilities were made. The meeting confirmed Abhishek Banerjee‘s position as the party’s general secretary while creating two new deputy general secretary roles for Rajya Sabha MPs Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen.

These decisions have sparked discussions in political circles across the state. Following the party’s significant defeat in the recent assembly elections, dissent within the TMC has intensified. Several rebel leaders attributed the loss to Abhishek Banerjee’s corporate-style approach and the heavy reliance on the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC).

Although Ghosh did not directly mention these decisions in his post, he expressed disagreement and disappointment with some of the party leadership’s choices. He stated that he was elected as a legislator under the symbol provided by Mamata Banerjee and does not support the betrayal of the party and Mamata Banerjee by certain leaders and legislators for personal gain, especially just a month after the state elections.

Ghosh remarked, “If the same mistakes continue to be repeated at various levels instead of correcting the party’s errors, I cannot turn a blind eye. A large number of party workers, students, and youth from different districts of West Bengal are continuously reaching out and expressing their concerns. We have assured them that we will listen. I will meet with them, and we will decide on the next steps later.”

He also clarified that he remains aligned with Mamata Banerjee but does not endorse the ongoing mistakes made by the party.

In closing his post, he wrote, “I do not stand with betrayal and those who betray, but I keep my ears, eyes, mind, heart, and mouth open to monitor the circumstances both inside and outside the party.”

Ghosh’s comments are seen as a reflection of the growing discontent within the Trinamool Congress regarding organizational decisions.
