Chandigarh, July 22: Former Chief Minister of Haryana and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda targeted the central government on Wednesday over the NEET paper leak and examination system. He accused the BJP of transforming Haryana into a “hub for paper leaks” and claimed that instead of taking action against the culprits, the government is providing them protection. Hooda also expressed his support for the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Condemning the alleged police action during protests led by Rahul Gandhi in support of students, Hooda stated that peaceful demonstrations on public interest issues are the right and responsibility of every citizen and representative. He emphasized that the demands raised by students and the opposition are entirely justified.
Hooda remarked that the entire country is calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, yet the central government remains obstinate. He accused the government of attempting to suppress the voices of the opposition and the public instead of addressing their concerns.
Speaking to the media at his residence in Chandigarh, Hooda noted that Congress has consistently raised the issue of paper leaks in Haryana for nearly 12 years. He alleged that while the government initiated investigations into several cases, no investigation reports were made public, nor was any substantial action taken against the guilty parties. He insisted that both the state and central governments are protecting those responsible for the paper leaks, making it essential to hold the government accountable.
Hooda stated that this is why students across the country are protesting for reforms in the examination system. He criticized the government for resorting to police force against students instead of engaging in dialogue and addressing their demands.
He affirmed that Congress will continue to raise this issue from the streets to the assembly in Haryana, just as it does nationwide.
Addressing questions related to farmers, Hooda asserted that any agreement concerning agricultural products with the United States cannot be in India’s interest. He mentioned that he would provide detailed comments only after all terms of the agreement are revealed. For now, the government should focus on fulfilling its promises to farmers and ensuring a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
In response to protests by the BJP outside the Congress headquarters, Hooda remarked that this is an attempt to distract from real issues. He stated that the BJP should answer questions regarding paper leaks, instead of staging political dramas against the opposition.
