New Delhi, August 31: Central Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has intensified his attack on the Karnataka government over alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment process. He questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, asking when he would visit Bengaluru and meet with the victims of the KPSC scandal.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Kumaraswamy stated that the KPSC controversy has become a national issue, negatively impacting Karnataka’s reputation. He emphasized that the discussion around the KPSC scandal is now at a national level, attributing this to the state government’s failures. “Rahul Gandhi should address this issue. He cannot remain silent when such serious allegations are being made in Karnataka,” he asserted.
Kumaraswamy urged Rahul Gandhi to visit Karnataka and meet with the affected youth. He remarked, “Rahul Gandhi travels across the country with a book of the Constitution, engaging with students and youth. He should come to Bengaluru and listen to the grievances of those impacted by the KPSC. He needs to understand what is happening under the Congress government in Karnataka.”
He called on Gandhi to take this issue as seriously as he did with the NEET controversy. Kumaraswamy accused Priyank Kharge, the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, of evading responsibility for alleged irregularities during his tenure related to the recruitment of Assistant Executive Engineers (Grade-I). “How can Kharge claim he has no involvement?” he questioned. Allegations suggest that candidates were housed in a resort, given question papers, and that there was manipulation of OMR sheets. These claims are linked to the recruitment process of the department he led.
Kumaraswamy sarcastically noted, “As far as I know, exams are conducted in schools and colleges. However, under Priyank Kharge’s department, candidates were allegedly made to take exams in a resort. If this is true, it would be a unique experiment. The government’s inaction is evident. Although KPSC is a constitutional body, it is being accused of becoming a hub of irregularities under the influence of the state government.”
He added, “Whenever I have spoken about KPSC irregularities, I have presented documents to the public. I have released investigation reports, evidence of allegedly tampered OMR sheets, and reports from the sub-committee. The Chief Minister has also responded to the irregularities in the Assembly.”
