Hyderabad, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the executive president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has sharply criticized Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and the Director General of Police (DGP) over the filing of sexual harassment cases against BRS legislators and MLCs.
In a post on X, KTR stated, “The Chief Minister has directed the police to register sexual harassment cases against BRS members following a scuffle at the Assembly entry point. This is a shocking misuse of the law. We will certainly contest these baseless allegations in court.”
He further questioned the DGP regarding the allegations of sexual harassment against Congress leaders during the Miss World competition in Hyderabad, asking, “What has happened to the charges against those Congress leaders? Will the Telangana police continue to shield the accused? Do you have any answers, Mr. Rahul Gandhi?”
Earlier, KTR accused the Congress government of including over one crore acres of land in the banned list under Section 22A. He made these claims during a meeting with affected landowners at the BRS headquarters, Telangana Bhavan. KTR noted that only 16 lakh acres were on the restricted list during the BRS government’s tenure, but this figure has ballooned to 1.16 crore acres under the new government.
The BRS has previously demanded the removal of Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, alleging that the government has arbitrarily frozen private properties under Section 22A. This section grants the state government the authority to halt the registration of certain land and property documents.
The main opposition party claims that the revenue and registration systems are being misused to unjustly include private properties under Section 22A. BRS leaders argue that this provision is intended solely to prevent the registration of legally restricted properties, not to create artificial ownership disputes over legitimate private properties or obstruct lawful transactions for citizens.
KTR asserted that individuals from various parts of the state have informed him that they faced no issues with their lands during the BRS government, but encroachments began after the Congress assumed power. He alleged that the suspension of BRS legislators from the Assembly was due to the impending exposure of the Chief Minister’s alleged irregularities.
