New Delhi, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and several members of the India bloc were released from police custody after being detained while en route to a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The protest was aimed at demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, following the leaders’ second consecutive day of demonstrations.
Congress MP Jyotimani criticized the police for using excessive force against opposition members, asserting their commitment to continue the fight. “We will ensure that Gyanesh Kumar and the BJP are ousted from power. They may attack our dignity, but true dignity resides in our minds, ideals, and values. We will not back down,” he stated.
Another Congress leader, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, expressed outrage over Gandhi’s treatment, highlighting that despite having Z-plus security, he was taken to an undisclosed location. He described the incident as blatant injustice, mentioning that Priyanka Gandhi was injured and treated as if they were criminals.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda, another Congress leader, emphasized that the Chief Election Commissioner must resign, stating, “This is a decision made by Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. We have taken similar actions in the past and will continue to do so.”
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy accused the central government of misusing agencies like the ED, CBI, and income tax department to secure electoral victories. He asserted that the Election Commission, originally established to safeguard citizens’ voting rights, is now being manipulated to remove voters opposing the BJP. Reddy demanded the immediate dismissal of Gyanesh Kumar, labeling him a pawn of the government.
Congress MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna remarked on the global attention surrounding the events, stating that international media is watching closely as Indian democracy faces threats. He condemned the poor treatment of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi by the police and vowed to stand against such actions.
The situation continues to unfold as opposition leaders rally for their cause, highlighting a growing tension between them and the ruling party.
