
Kolkata, September 17 (Daily Kiran) : In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, Kolkata police arrested four individuals during a raid on a local shop known as ‘The Smokers Den.’ The operation took place on Wednesday night at 191 Park Street, following reports that the shop was unlawfully storing and selling e-cigarettes.
A joint team from the Anti-Raiding Section (ARS) and the Detective Department executed the raid under the jurisdiction of the Beniyapukur police station. During the search, authorities seized a substantial stock of e-cigarettes and apprehended four suspects linked to the establishment.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 22-year-old Mohammad Rifaiz, 28-year-old Abdul Hakim K., 21-year-old Ahmad Masood, and 40-year-old Mohammad Ejaz, all residents of Kolkata. Preliminary investigations revealed that the first three suspects lived on Linton Street, while the fourth resided on Ripon Street.
Police officials stated that interrogations are ongoing, with efforts focused on uncovering the source of the seized e-cigarettes and identifying potential suppliers. Investigators are also exploring whether the shop had been engaged in this illegal trade for an extended period and if additional accomplices are involved.
A formal case has been registered at the Beniyapukur police station, and multiple legal provisions have been invoked in connection with this incident. Sources indicate that further raids may be conducted at other shops across the city to determine if similar illegal activities are occurring elsewhere. The investigation remains active as police continue to pursue leads.
