Hanoi, September 18 (Daily Kiran) : A delegation from India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation visited Hanoi on September 17-18, 2026, to discuss the India-Vietnam Air Services Agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV). The Indian Embassy reported that this initiative aims to strengthen air connectivity between the two nations, fostering closer ties among their people.
The embassy emphasized that improved air links will boost trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchanges, highlighting their significance in the broader context of the India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Earlier this week, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and his Vietnamese counterpart, Le Hoai Trung, held discussions focused on enhancing political, defense, and security cooperation, including increasing the supply of defense materials manufactured in India. These talks took place during the 19th India-Vietnam Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) in New Delhi, co-chaired by both ministers.
Describing the meeting as “productive and results-oriented,” Jaishankar noted that discussions centered on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key areas, including defense supply, trade, investment, supply chains, energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and cultural projects.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar shared insights on social media, stating that political, defense, and security cooperation between India and Vietnam has intensified. He mentioned the increased supply of Indian-made defense materials and constructive discussions on trade, investment, and supply chains. The expansion of market access for Indian marine, agricultural, and pharmaceutical products was also highlighted, along with deepening energy cooperation and promoting cultural heritage projects.
Jaishankar underscored Vietnam’s role as a key partner in India’s Look East, ASEAN, Indo-Pacific, and Global South policies. In his opening remarks, he identified Vietnam as a crucial partner in advancing India’s regional engagement, particularly under the Act East policy and the overarching Indo-Pacific vision, while also emphasizing its significance within the framework of India’s comprehensive strategic partnership with ASEAN.
