Kiren Rijiju Assures No Lockdown Amid Fuel Price Concerns

New Delhi, March 27: Amid rising concerns over petrol and diesel prices and rumors of a lockdown, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju made a significant statement on Friday. He clarified that there will be no lockdown in the country, urging citizens not to panic. Additionally, he appealed to state governments to prevent hoarding and ensure a smooth supply of fuel.

Rijiju praised the central government’s decision to significantly reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel, calling it a historic step to provide relief to the public.

In a conversation with reporters, he expressed gratitude on behalf of the entire nation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “In these challenging times, when the regions from which we receive gas and petroleum products are facing war-like situations, making such a substantial decision is no small feat,” he stated.

He emphasized that the government’s clear objective is to ensure that no citizen faces difficulties in their daily lives. The Prime Minister has demonstrated that no Indian should encounter any issues in their routine. Rijiju noted that the country produces very little gas and oil and is heavily reliant on imports. Therefore, controlling prices and preventing increases is a significant decision.

He revealed that the excise duty on petrol has now been reduced to just 3 rupees, while diesel has been made completely duty-free. Following this decision, there is a sense of happiness among the public, with many expressing their gratitude to the Prime Minister.

Regarding Parliament, he mentioned that MPs would also welcome this decision. The parliamentary session is being reconvened today, and the representatives of the people will support this major decision. This move, led by the Prime Minister, is a positive signal for Parliament.

Responding to rumors of a lockdown, Rijiju questioned, “Who is spreading these rumors? The Prime Minister has clearly stated that there should be no panic.” He also warned state governments to prevent hoarding and ensure that no situation arises that could instill fear among the people.

The Union Minister assured that the Indian government is fully in control of the situation, reminding state governments of their responsibilities. With such a significant decision made by the central government, it is also the duty of state governments to ensure that there is no shortage of gas, petrol, or diesel. Collaboration is essential.

When asked about the internal leadership dispute within the Congress party, Rijiju responded calmly. “Who Congress chooses as its leader is their internal matter. However, we hope that their leader will have a positive outlook and respect parliamentary democracy, rules, and traditions.”

He urged everyone to work together to implement this decision effectively on the ground. “This is a time of crisis. We must operate as a team.”
