Steady Growth in Trade Between China and SCO Member Nations

Beijing, August 30: Economic and trade cooperation remains a key driver for the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). According to data released by the General Administration of Customs of China, there has been a consistent increase in imports and exports between China and other SCO member countries in recent years.

In 2024, trade between both parties reached 36.5 trillion yuan, and this figure rose to 37.5 trillion yuan in 2025, marking growth rates of 3.8% and 2.8%, respectively.

During the first seven months of this year, trade amounted to 24.2 trillion yuan, reflecting a 14.9% increase compared to the same period last year. This growth highlights the increasing potential for regional economic cooperation.

In terms of exports, electronic and machinery products led the way in the first seven months. China exported 15.8 trillion yuan worth of goods to SCO countries during this period, with electronic products accounting for 9.98 trillion yuan, representing over 60% of total exports.

Additionally, automobile exports reached 1.1933 trillion yuan, a significant increase of 71.2% compared to the same period last year, making it the largest single contributor to export growth.

On the import side, China imported 840.21 billion yuan worth of goods from SCO countries in the first seven months. Energy products constituted a major share, with imports totaling 364.76 billion yuan, which is 43.4% of total imports. Furthermore, there was a 44.9% increase in the import of metal ores and a 25.6% rise in agricultural products.

Notably, China’s top three trading partners within the SCO are Russia, India, and Kazakhstan. In the first seven months of this year, trade with these three countries reached 1.1 trillion yuan, 748.39 billion yuan, and 224.29 billion yuan, respectively, accounting for 85.6% of China’s total trade with SCO nations.

During the same period, trade with Kyrgyzstan amounted to 8.119 billion yuan, while trade with Egypt reached 9.519 billion yuan.
