Colombo, August 30: India’s Acting High Commissioner, Maitreyi Kulkarni, inaugurated a Reverse Osmosis (RO) water purification plant at the Monaragala District General Hospital on Saturday. The event was also attended by Sri Lanka‘s Deputy Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development, R.M. Jayawardena.
The Indian Consulate in Hambantota announced on social media platform X that this plant is a gift from the people of India. It aims to provide clean and safe drinking water to patients, visitors, and staff at the hospital. This initiative will further strengthen the development cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in the health sector.
Earlier on Thursday, Acting High Commissioner Kulkarni met with Professor Susiripala Manawadu, the Governor of the Southern Province. They discussed various ongoing projects between India and Sri Lanka, particularly programs aimed at enhancing cultural, educational, and interpersonal relations.
The consulate reported on X that both parties reviewed various initiatives under the India-Sri Lanka partnership in the Southern Province and explored new opportunities for collaboration.
Meanwhile, on Friday, India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, co-chaired the 41st board meeting of the India-Sri Lanka Foundation held in New Delhi. Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to India, Mahishini Kolone, also attended the meeting.
Jha shared on X that board members Mohan Kumar, Ashok Malik, and Prasad Kariyawasam were present. He noted that the meeting reviewed the foundation’s activities and discussed new project proposals to further strengthen India-Sri Lanka relations in education, culture, science, technology, and other sectors.
