Key Meeting on Issues in West Bengals Hill Regions, Home Minister Promises Swift Resolution

New Delhi, August 23: A significant meeting was held on Saturday in Siliguri, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari. The gathering included various stakeholders and representatives from the hill regions of West Bengal. Senior officials from both the central and state governments were also in attendance.

During the meeting, political representatives such as MPs Raju Bista and Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Hill Minister Vishal Lama, GJM leader Bimal Gurung, and others participated actively.

The discussions focused on various issues concerning the hill population of West Bengal. Topics included their distinct identity, demands for a permanent political solution, and recognition under the Constitution of India.

Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah assured a prompt and permanent political resolution within the framework of the Indian Constitution. He expressed empathy towards the community’s other demands and assured that adequate funding from the center would be allocated to resolve all pending issues.

A committee was formed, led by former Deputy National Security Advisor and current negotiator Pankaj Kumar Singh, to finalize modalities. This committee will outline the details of a final agreement aimed at providing a permanent political solution for the people of West Bengal’s hill regions under the Constitution.

Shah emphasized the Indian government’s commitment, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, to address all issues related to the hill population of West Bengal.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with leaders representing various organizations thanking Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for their amicable and generous approach.
