Srinagar, June 3: In a recent statement, Abdul Majid Larmi, a legislator from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), clarified that the upcoming meeting led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is an internal gathering of the National Conference, not a coalition meeting. He emphasized that Congress legislators have not been invited, and the primary focus will be on issues related to statehood, governance, and development.
In an exclusive conversation with a news agency, Larmi stated that there would be no discussions regarding cabinet expansion today. The meeting will primarily address governance issues, the demand for restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, and concerns related to the public. All legislators will raise issues affecting their respective constituencies and the grievances of the people. He reiterated that this is solely a National Conference meeting and should not be perceived as a coalition gathering. Four independent legislators who support the National Conference and have the party’s backing will attend. Congress is not part of this meeting as it is not a coalition event.
Highlighting the importance of statehood, Larmi asserted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to it, which should be restored. He noted that functioning as a Union Territory is not easy, and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah fully understands these challenges. “We are demanding our rights, and we believe that statehood should be reinstated. Just as proposals related to Ladakh are discussed, the rights of Jammu and Kashmir should also be taken seriously,” he stated.
Larmi also criticized the opposition, stating that their role is to critique, but the removal of Articles 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir was due to past political mistakes. He argued that if those mistakes had not occurred, the current situation would be different.
He launched a sharp attack on Sunil Sharma, the leader of the opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Larmi urged the opposition to focus on real issues affecting the public rather than continuously targeting the National Conference and Omar Abdullah. He highlighted the need to prioritize inflation, development, education, and the future of the youth. “The opposition should stop dreaming and start addressing the people’s issues. They need to pay attention to the problems in their constituencies. Under Omar Abdullah’s leadership, we will continue to fight vigorously for the rights of the people and the interests of Jammu and Kashmir,” he concluded.
