New Delhi, June 3: D.K. Shivakumar will take the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Karnataka today at 4:05 PM. The ceremony will be held at the Glass House in Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru.

According to a statement from the future Chief Minister’s office, Governor Thawarchand Gehlot will administer the oath to Shivakumar and the new cabinet members during the event.

Prominent Congress leaders are expected to attend, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, AICC General Secretary (Organization) K.C. Venugopal, and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala.

The guest list will feature Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and state Congress committee presidents from various states, along with Members of Parliament and senior party leaders.

In a significant move, representatives from diverse sections of society will also be present. Religious leaders from different faiths and students from a government school in Doddaalahalli, Kanakapura, have been invited.

Additionally, laborers, sanitation workers, farmer leaders, representatives from Dalit organizations, backward class leaders, women self-help groups, and youth leaders will also be part of the event. Media personnel, members of the film industry, judiciary, sports, theater, writers, artists, industrialists, business leaders, and hotel industry representatives are also included in the invitation list.

This inclusive guest list is seen as a reflection of the new government’s commitment to inclusive governance and engagement with various societal segments. This comes as D.K. Shivakumar prepares to assume office as Chief Minister of Karnataka.

Earlier on Tuesday, Shivakumar stated that under his leadership, a “new era for youth” will begin in the state. However, he acknowledged that the responsibilities ahead would not be easy. He described his appointment to the top position as a victory for Congress workers and pledged to work diligently for the people of Karnataka.

He emphasized that the party has given an opportunity to a worker, not a leader. He expressed heartfelt gratitude for the trust placed in him and recognized the challenges that lie ahead, vowing to face them with hard work.

Shivakumar noted that the people of Karnataka have shown their trust in him, and he will strive to fulfill his responsibilities with integrity and dedication. He remarked that the world has seen India through Bengaluru, highlighting the state’s significance. He emphasized the need to engage with every section of society.

Stressing inclusive governance, he stated that his government will work for farmers, women, youth, and all societal segments. He reiterated his commitment to bringing everyone along in this new era for Karnataka’s youth.

Reflecting on his political journey, Shivakumar attributed his rise to the Chief Minister’s position to his dedication and hard work. He acknowledged the challenges faced along the way, asserting that while it may have taken time, it was not overlooked. This sentiment resonates not only with him but with every Congress worker who has stood by the party and its democratic values.
