Kerala Police Enhances Cybersecurity with Indigenous Robotics Initiative

Kochi, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : Kerala is taking significant steps to bolster its cybersecurity framework in response to rising cyber threats. The state police announced plans to incorporate domestically developed robots for traffic management, disaster response, and rescue operations.

This initiative was unveiled by Ramesh Chennithala, the state’s Home Minister, during the 19th COCON Security and Hacking Conference organized by the Kerala Police. He emphasized that as technology evolves, so do the risks associated with cyberattacks. Addressing these challenges will require collaboration among the government, law enforcement, researchers, and tech companies.

Chennithala highlighted the serious dangers posed by personal data theft and financial fraud, which threaten both individuals and organizations. He pointed out that critical infrastructure, including power plants, hospitals, and financial institutions, needs enhanced protection. Safeguarding military information and government records is also imperative.

The minister noted that the increasing use of artificial intelligence in warfare, politics, and governance has introduced new cybersecurity challenges. He stressed the importance of protecting data and personal privacy while ensuring that cybersecurity measures remain legal and responsible.

With assistance from iHub Robotics, the Kerala Police has developed new robotic systems designed for traffic management, rescue operations, and industrial automation. These include “Daksh,” a robot for traffic management, “Kavach,” which aids rescue teams in difficult terrains, and “Tara,” capable of providing information in multiple languages to assist the public.

Chennithala stated that traffic management robots could alleviate the workload of police officers who often endure long hours in harsh weather conditions. The integration of this technology is expected to enhance police operations significantly. The state government is also committed to providing more training in cybersecurity and raising public awareness about online threats.

He emphasized the necessity of international cooperation and public-private partnerships in combating cybercrime. The COCON conference has emerged as a vital platform for sharing information and innovative ideas related to cybersecurity.

This event is expected to benefit police forces, government agencies, industries, and the international community alike. Notable attendees included Deputy National Security Advisor T.V. Ravichandran, Challa Srinivasulu Setty, Director General of Police (DGP) Ravada Chandrasekhar, and Manoj Abraham.
