Thiruvananthapuram, June 29: The Kerala government has appointed A. Santosh Kumar as a special prosecutor for case number 762/2026. This case was registered at the Museum Police Station. It involves allegations that CPI(M) workers assaulted Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials during an interrogation of Veena T., the daughter of opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan.
According to a gazette issued by the Kerala government, A. Santosh Kumar has been designated to prosecute on behalf of the state in the competent court regarding the incident recorded under crime number 762/2026 at the Museum Police Station in Thiruvananthapuram. He will receive a fee as stipulated in Rule 32, Clause 10 of the Kerala Government Law Officers (Appointment and Conditions of Service) and Case Management Rules, 1978.
Notably, the ED team was investigating a money laundering case linked to Cochin Minerals and Rutiles Limited. As part of this investigation, the agency conducted raids on several locations, including the residence of former Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, on May 28.
Following the raids, the ED team was reportedly attacked by a group of individuals, resulting in damage to the officials’ vehicles. According to police reports, some supporters of the CPI(M) were involved in the assault. Several individuals have been charged in connection with this incident.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate has filed a petition in the Kerala High Court seeking to revoke the bail granted to Harish Kumar, the ninth accused in the assault on ED officials during the May raid at former Chief Minister P. Vijayan’s residence. Harish was granted bail by the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court on June 24.
The ED suspects that the prosecutor from the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court may have provided misleading information to the court when considering the bail application, leading to the approval of bail. The agency also believes that other leaders may be involved in this alleged conspiracy, which remains under investigation.
