Bengaluru, April 18: In Karnataka, Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok has launched a fierce attack on the Congress regarding the Women’s Reservation Bill, officially known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. He accused the party of revealing its “anti-women face” by opposing the bill.
During a press conference, Ashok stated, “The women of this country will never forgive Congress. It is appropriate to dissolve the women’s wing of Congress.”
He alleged that the central government, led by Prime Minister Modi, introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill to grant constitutional rights to women, but opposition parties opposed it in the Lok Sabha.
Ashok criticized Congress and its allies for believing that providing women with 2,000 rupees and free bus travel is sufficient, ignoring their need for political representation. He asserted that women will respond to this in the upcoming elections.
He also targeted former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, stating that despite ruling for 60 years, they failed to implement women’s reservation. Yet, when the current government took this step, Congress opposed it.
On the issue of delimitation, Ashok mentioned that the number of Lok Sabha seats in South India could increase from 129 to 195, and any disagreements could be discussed. He emphasized that delimitation is a standard process that has been followed before.
He urged women to take to the streets and question Congress, accusing the party of previously opposing the Triple Talaq law as well.
Ashok stated that the BJP is not exploiting this issue for electoral gain, suggesting that Congress could have supported the bill and claimed credit for it. He noted that the bill would be implemented within three years, despite not being enacted in the past 60 years.
He accused Congress of making grand statements about women’s rights on platforms but failing to implement them.
In conclusion, Ashok declared, “If Congress does not vote in support of this bill, its women’s wing should be dissolved. The public will never forgive a Congress government that neglects women’s rights.”
