Rahul Gandhi Vows to Protect Tamil Language and Culture from BJP-RSS Influence

Tiruvallur, April 18: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is campaigning in Tamil Nadu for the upcoming assembly elections. While addressing a rally in Ponneri, located in Tiruvallur district, he launched a strong attack on the BJP. He asserted that the BJP and RSS will not be allowed to harm Tamil language or culture.

During his speech, Gandhi stated, “As seen yesterday in Parliament, they (the central government) introduced a new bill. They claimed to be trying to pass a bill related to women. However, they had already passed a bill concerning women’s reservation in 2023. Thus, hidden within yesterday’s women’s bill was a plan for delimitation. Their aim was to reduce Tamil Nadu’s representation in Parliament, weaken the power of southern and smaller states, and diminish the strength of northeastern states. We defeated that bill in Parliament yesterday.”

Gandhi emphasized, “We opposed and defeated this bill to protect the idea of India enshrined in our Constitution. India, or Bharat, is a union of states, where each state should have its own voice. Every state has the right to express itself, preserve its language, and protect its traditions. When Prime Minister Modi speaks of ‘one nation, one leader, one language, one people,’ he is attacking the Constitution of India.”

He expressed pride in his connection with Tamil Nadu, saying, “Coming to Tamil Nadu has always been a matter of pride for me. Over the past few years, I have developed a deep bond with the people here. Tamil Nadu holds a very special place in my heart. When I see the RSS and BJP attacking this state, its people, culture, and language, it angers me. They want to undermine the Tamil language and culture, but we will not allow that.”

Gandhi further remarked, “The truth is that these people neither understand the sentiments of Tamils nor the significance of the Tamil language to them. They fail to grasp that the heritage of Tamil civilization is thousands of years old and cannot be erased. The BJP merely seeks a partner in Tamil Nadu who will allow them to rule from Delhi. They want a Chief Minister who will obey the orders of Amit Shah and Narendra Modi, and a leadership system that will run the state on their terms.”

The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha urged the people of Tamil Nadu to recognize that the BJP and RSS are fundamentally anti-Tamil. “The plan we thwarted yesterday aimed to weaken your voice in Parliament. We make a clear promise that we will never allow the BJP and RSS to harm Tamil language or culture.”
