Patna, April 18: For the first time, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed a government in Bihar, with senior leader Samrat Chaudhary taking the role of Chief Minister. In this context, a special session of the Bihar Assembly has been called for April 24.
This session is considered crucial for Bihar’s political landscape. During this meeting, Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will present a confidence motion, aiming to demonstrate the majority support for his government.
Recently, there has been a significant shift in the power structure. The NDA government is now led by the BJP, marking the first time a BJP Chief Minister has taken office, alongside two Deputy Chief Ministers from the Janata Dal (United) party. Previously, Nitish Kumar held the Chief Minister position, while BJP members served as Deputy Chief Ministers.
According to an official letter issued by the Assembly Secretariat, notifications for the session have been sent to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers, and all ministers and legislators. The letter was signed by Director Rajeev Kumar of the Bihar Assembly, Patna.
The letter clearly states that the session will convene on April 24, 2026, at 11 AM in the Bihar Assembly building, Patna.
In the Bihar Assembly elections held last November, the NDA secured 202 seats, granting them a substantial majority. Notably, after Nitish Kumar was elected to the Rajya Sabha, he resigned from the Legislative Council. Following this, the NDA government, now under BJP leadership, was formed, with Samrat Chaudhary as Chief Minister. He was sworn in alongside two Deputy Chief Ministers. It is anticipated that the cabinet will be expanded after elections in several states.
