Tumakuru, June 6: Karnataka’s Tumakuru police arrested two individuals on Friday for allegedly maintaining contact with a person based in Pakistan via social media. The accused, Allabakash (23) from Shriramnagar and Jamir Khan (23), a mason from Davanagere, are suspected of attempting to organize others against the nation and engage in disruptive activities.
Authorities reported that these individuals were involved in activities harmful to India’s national security and sovereignty. The arrests were made under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Based on confirmed intelligence from central agencies, Tumakuru city police dismantled this network. Sources indicated that the accused were being handled by Rana Umar, a most-wanted terrorist based in Pakistan. Through these individuals, the Pakistani handler was reportedly establishing an organized network in the region.
The police action commenced on June 4, following a tip-off. The Kyathasandra police examined Allabakash’s mobile phone. During interrogation, it was revealed that he was allegedly communicating in Hindi with a person named Rana Bhai from Pakistan via Instagram.
Investigators noted that the conversations included discussions about organizing youth and executing disruptive activities aimed at disturbing peace in the country. Rana is currently listed among India’s most wanted criminals by national investigation agencies.
According to investigators, this terrorist from Pakistan had reached out to several unsuspecting youths in India through social media, attempting to form an organization for carrying out destructive activities.
A case has been registered at the Tumakuru Town police station based on the investigation. Police reported that Jamir Khan was on the run before his arrest.
Sources indicated that the nature of the conversations over just 20 days raises several serious questions. The investigation revealed that the accused were being influenced through a WhatsApp group, where the terrorist allegedly attempted to radicalize members under the pretext of promoting unity within the community.
The police further stated that the accused had been systematically brainwashed as part of a larger conspiracy, which has now been uncovered, and the investigation is ongoing.
According to police, the arrested youths were ordinary individuals engaged in small jobs. They reportedly came into contact with Rana through Instagram about a month ago. Subsequently, they communicated multiple times on X and eventually joined a WhatsApp group.
Investigators noted that initially, Rana shared messages about Islam and the teachings of the Prophet but later began promoting unity in a more incendiary manner, gradually steering discussions towards ideas of vengeance against the country.
The investigation also revealed that Rana mentioned the murder of a cleric in Pune and spoke of revenge. He allegedly discussed the necessary preparations for such acts and emphasized that the community should remain united and not abandon anyone. Police also suspect that Rana has followers in various parts of the country and introduced the arrested youths to his extensive network.
Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the nature of the network’s expansion and online coordination.
