Dhanbad, August 28: A heartbreaking incident occurred in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, on Raksha Bandhan, where three children drowned in a local pond. The tragedy unfolded on Friday in the Ranglitand village of the Topchanchi police station area.
Among the victims were two girls and one boy. The village is now engulfed in mourning, with family members devastated by the loss. According to local residents, the three children—Raljhal, Kundro, and Abha—went to bathe in a pond near their village. During their swim, one girl ventured into the deeper part of the pond and began to drown. Seeing her struggle, the other two children attempted to rescue her.
In the process, they too were pulled into the deep water. Villagers nearby noticed the children in distress and rushed to help, but tragically, all three had already submerged before they could reach them. Local divers initiated a rescue operation and, after considerable effort, retrieved the children from the water.
They were then transported to the Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad. Unfortunately, medical staff declared all three dead upon examination. The news of their deaths sent shockwaves through the families, leading to cries of despair in the hospital.
The joyous celebrations of Raksha Bandhan quickly turned into mourning. It has been reported that these children frequently bathed in the same pond. Following the incident, the Topchanchi police arrived at the scene and have commenced an investigation. The post-mortem process for the three children is currently underway. The simultaneous loss of three young lives has cast a pall of sorrow over the entire village and surrounding areas.
