Karnataka Delegation to Meet PM Modi Post State Elections, Says D.K. Shivakumar

New Delhi, March 18: Following the completion of assembly elections in several states, a multi-party delegation from Karnataka is set to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Water Resources. This announcement was made by Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He stated that during a meeting with Karnataka MPs, it was decided that the delegation would engage with the Prime Minister and the Union Minister after the elections in various states.

Addressing the media after a meeting with state MPs at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday night, Shivakumar emphasized that the meeting aims to discuss irrigation-related issues affecting the state. It will also address minor challenges in projects like Mahadayi, Krishna, Tungabhadra, and Bhadra, review the status of irrigation plans, and explore ways to advance them.

Shivakumar noted that it is essential to schedule time for meetings with the Prime Minister and relevant ministers. MPs suggested that the meeting date be set after the elections in some states. He confirmed that they have agreed to this request, postponing the meeting to a later date.

He explained that elections have already been announced in some states, and the decisions made could impact them. Therefore, MPs have requested a new date for the meeting. Shivakumar expressed that all should work together for the state’s welfare, as they have done in the past. The intention is to send a multi-party delegation, aiming for collective efforts towards state development.

He also mentioned that the land acquisition process for the Upper Krishna Project (UKP-3) has commenced. The government has taken steps to acquire 1.33 lakh acres of land by determining compensation through mutual agreement. He highlighted that sufficient funds have been allocated in the budget, marking a significant decision in the country’s history. Regarding the Cauvery issue, he assured that the government would proceed according to the Supreme Court’s orders.

Shivakumar revealed that the meeting was organized following discussions with the Union Water Resources Minister and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, with participation from 24 MPs. He acknowledged the contributions of various leaders, including former Chief Minister and BJP MP Jagadish Shettar, former Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol, and BJP MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, who raised various issues during the discussions.

He thanked all MPs for their participation, providing them with updates on developments during the BJP government’s tenure and the current government’s efforts to advance projects. Documents have been submitted, detailing the steps taken by the government.

Furthermore, Shivakumar mentioned that he and the ministers had met with the government’s legal team, expressing confidence in their commitment to work in the public’s interest. He assured that all irrigation-related issues would be addressed.

In response to a question about environmental clearance for the Yettinahole project, he stated that the government has been waiting for approval for the past year and is now ready to commence work immediately, with half of the project already completed. Certain conditions have been imposed, and they will proceed accordingly.
