Russia Strikes Residential Areas in Ukraine, Leaving 13 Dead and 90 Injured

New Delhi, July 2: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has reported that Russia has once again violated the rules of war by attacking residential areas in Ukraine. The strikes targeted an ambulance station, a research institute, and a hotel, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals.

Zelensky claimed that Russian drones wreaked havoc throughout the night. Over 70 missiles were launched at Ukraine, nearly half of which were ballistic missiles.

In a post on the social media platform X, Zelensky stated, “Rescue operations are still ongoing in Kyiv following the Russian attacks. Rescue teams are clearing debris, searching for people, and assisting those in need. More than 20 locations in the city have suffered damage, most of which are residential homes. Additionally, an ambulance station, a research institute, a hotel, and several businesses have also been affected.”

He expressed his deep condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, noting that more than 90 people were injured. “We are providing all possible assistance to those in need of treatment and support,” he added.

Zelensky reported that five individuals, including a child, were injured in the Kharkiv region. Two more were injured in Kyiv, where civilian infrastructure was also targeted. Throughout the night, Russia launched attacks on the Sumy, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, and Cherkasy regions.

The Ukrainian president emphasized that more than 70 different types of missiles were fired at Ukraine, with approximately half being ballistic missiles. Additionally, around 500 attack drones were deployed, including jet-engine “Shahed” drones. Kyiv was the primary target of these assaults. Although our air defense system intercepted several missiles and drones, it was impossible to stop them all.

He stressed the urgent need for air defense systems for Ukraine. “Every bit of support for the ‘Pearl’ program is crucial, as it directly helps save lives. Each bilateral agreement with our partner countries regarding air defense makes a significant difference. I am grateful to all the leaders who are assisting us.”

Zelensky also highlighted the importance of advancing agreements related to the production of anti-ballistic defense systems. He expressed hope that the United States would make a positive decision regarding licenses related to the Patriot system and other collaborations. Such steps could help prevent this war and avoid future attacks.

“I sincerely thank everyone who stands with us in our efforts to protect Ukraine and our people,” he concluded.
