Bengaluru, September 2: The 59th City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru has postponed the process of recording the testimony of Prodos, the 14th accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. Prodos is considered a key witness in this matter.
Prodos was brought to court by prison authorities to provide his statement. However, the proceedings were delayed as the High Court has yet to issue a ruling on a petition filed by actor Darshan related to this case.
Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) Prasanna Kumar requested additional time from the court, stating that they are still awaiting the High Court’s order. He asked for the testimony recording process to be postponed until September 7.
Considering the SPP’s request, the court has rescheduled the proceedings for September 7.
Under police protection, Prodos completed the necessary formalities in court and signed documents before being taken back to jail. As he exited the court premises, he confidently gestured a ‘thumbs-up’ to the media cameras.
Prodos’s testimony is deemed crucial for the prosecution against the other accused in the case.
Notably, Kannada actor Darshan has appealed to the Karnataka High Court, challenging the trial court’s decision to allow Prodos to become a government witness.
Darshan’s appeal questions the decision to grant Prodos the status of a government witness, naming him as a respondent in the petition.
In his petition, Darshan has raised concerns regarding the procedures and technical grounds adopted by the court while considering Prodos’s application to become a government witness. He has sought a stay on the trial court’s decision.
After permitting Prodos to become a government witness, the trial court issued a summons for his testimony.
Darshan argues that the order allowing Prodos to become a government witness should be reviewed on legal and procedural grounds.
Prodos is among those accused of the murder of Renukaswamy, whose body was discovered in Bengaluru in June 2024. The police are investigating the case, which involves Darshan and several others.
The 59th City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru has officially accepted Prodos’s application to become a government witness and granted him conditional immunity on August 25.
