Lucknow, September 11 (Daily Kiran) : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to promptly repair roads damaged by recent rains and flooding. He emphasized the need to make these roads motorable and to plan for further renovations after the rainy season.
During a review meeting with the Public Works Department on Friday, Adityanath noted that the rains are still ongoing. He urged continuous monitoring of road conditions and called for a survey of newly damaged routes. With upcoming festivals expected to draw large crowds, he stressed that travel on major routes should not face any disruptions. The Chief Minister directed the completion of necessary repairs and renovations before the festivals.
Reports from the meeting indicated that heavy rainfall, coupled with ongoing construction projects on expressways and national highways, has led to significant road damage. The department is currently surveying these affected roads. Based on the survey results, targets for repairing potholes will be established. A total of 681 key routes have been identified for priority maintenance, particularly those that will see increased traffic during major festivals such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Vishwakarma Puja, Navratri, Diwali, Chhath Puja, and Kartik Purnima.
CM Adityanath also sought updates from officials of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways regarding their action plans. The meeting included a review of initiatives from various departments, including the Mandi Parishad, Panchayati Raj, irrigation, rural development, urban development, housing, and industrial development. He emphasized the importance of better coordination among these departments.
According to departmental presentations, the pothole elimination campaign involves nine departments managing approximately 4.36 lakh kilometers of roads. The current goal is to repair around 50,000 kilometers of roads, with progress reported on about 5,751 kilometers so far.
After surveying the damaged roads, final targets for repair will be established. The review also covered plans for renovations and special repairs, with targets set for around 30,000 kilometers for renovation and 5,000 kilometers for special repairs. So far, approximately 14,000 kilometers have seen progress in renovations, while about 700 kilometers have been completed in special repairs. The Chief Minister highlighted the critical role of roads in daily life, urging that roads leading to educational institutions, hospitals, main markets, and government offices be prioritized.
He instructed officials to initiate immediate work on these routes and ensure that any necessary repairs are carried out without delay. Adityanath emphasized the need for both speed and quality in the execution of these projects.
